The flight was in a circumterrestrial orbit at the heights of 181–327 kilometers. The ship-satellite with the first cosmonaut in the world flew around the terrestrial globe for 108 minutes and returned safely to the Earth.
Further there was the trip in the open car, Gagarin stood full-height and greeted everybody. Nikita Khrushchev awarded Gagarin the Gold star “The Hero of the Soviet Union” and appropriated a new rank: “The Pilot-cosmonaut of the ”.

The execution of the task in a flight zone should borrow not less than 20 minutes, but just in four minutes (at 10:30) Gagarin informed about the execution of the task and requested the permission to return to the base. After it the connection with the plane interrupted.
There was created the State commission for the investigation of the accident, but it could not explain the reasons of the tragedy. As a result the report of the commission was classified, and only a small group of people was informed about details.
